HTML for Dummies HelpInfo

The HTML for Dummies Web pages are best if viewed with a browser which has the following configuration options.

• Displays in-line images
  
• Uses transparent and interlaced GIFs
  
• Has a "BACK" button for returning to the previous page
  
• Caches graphics as well as full pages
  
• Displays the text while retrieving the images
  
• Can handle forms and "mailto:" requests [Online pages only]
  
• User configurable type styles
  
• Allows graphical link boundaries to be turned off
  

These pages have been tested on the following browsers:

• Mosaic © - All features functional.
  
• Netscape © - All features functional.
  
• WinWeb © - Only compatible with online pages.
  
• WebSurfer © - Only compatible with online pages
  

Note:
the reason that WinWeb and WebSurfer fail is because the file extensions used in the HREF="URL"include the full ".html" extension string. Neither of these browsers is apparently capable of mapping the UNIX file extension to its DOS equivalent ".htm". If you really want to use these browsers with our files, all you need to do is edit each and every URL, dropping the "l" off the end of the existing file extension.

This will cause an automatic response, containing the Dummies Web server URL, to be send to your e-mail account. Included in the on-line pages is a link to download the entire set of pages. These will be available in all of the following formats: .zip, .tar, .sit, .hqx, and .Z format.
